Raptors squads finish runner-up at OABCIG Invitational

IDA GROVE — The No. 8-ranked (Class 2A) Ridge View girls and Raptors boy’s cross country teams competed Monday at the OABCIG Invitational and came home with team runner-up hardware by both squads.

The girls team met it match in the team race settling for second behind Class 1A No. 10-ranked Sioux Central. Team scores were 47 for Sioux Central and Ridge View tallied 76. The Lawton-Bronson girls team finished third with a total score of 87, out of the eight team field.

Individually seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Addy Tesch brought home a third place showing in a time of 20:10.94. Tesch settled in behind No. 15-ranked (Class 2A) Rachel Putze of WC-K-P/RV (19:51.01) and meet championship No. 12-ranked (Class 1A) Chloe Broer, a junior from West Monona. Broer finished the varsity 5K event with a time of 19:42.28.

Sophomore Clara Todd also had a Top-10 place finish individually for Ridge View, finishing seventh in a time of 21:19.60. The Raptors had eight runners compete from a field of 79.

The best individual finish by a Ridge View boy was Odin Hanson in 14th place with a 18:13.00 clocking. But it was the Raptors ability to have three Top-20 place finishes Talan Witzke (16th) Landyn Peterson (17th) that helped them lock up runner-up in the meet on the team side. The Raptors finished with a 106 team score.

Meet champion never became doubt at the eighth-ranked (Class 1A) Sioux Central boys finished with a 47 point (59-106) differential between them and the Raptors. The Rebels of Sioux Central made it a clean sweep with sophomore Lucos Wernimont capturing the 5K boys race. Wernimont, who entered the meet tenth-ranked in Class 1A finished with a 16:46.95 impressive effort.

Another ranked opponent secured silver as MVAOCOU senior Charlie Forbes, ranked 23rd in Class 2A posted a time of 17:02.35. There was a field of 113 runners represented in the event. There were 13 different teams battling in the team race.

The Ridge View cross country teams will be back out doing their thing on Saturday in the Western Valley Conference meet in Holstein.
