Strong attacks and serving pace Raptors in 2A quarterfinal

HOLSTEIN — In terms of playing to the level of your opponent, Ridge View did just that on Wednesday in the Class 2A Region 6 quarterfinal against East Sac County.

This was the third meeting this season between the two schools with each team owning a 2-1 victory against the other. The Raptors won back in the finals of the Ridge View Classic on September 7, and East Sac County pinned the loss on Ridge View at the Master Blaster Tournament hosted by South Central Calhoun.

Ridge View came into the contest having dropped four straight matches four days earlier at the Sioux City Heelan Classic.

In the 2A quarterfinal, the Raptors finished a plus +19 in kill margin 41-22 and finished with a .415 kill efficiency. The first set was a Ridge View 25-9 win. Set two was 24-13, and the third set finished at 25-14.

Ridge View’s serving was precise, hitting they zones on the floor. The Raptors finished at a sparkling 98.7 percent (74-75) with 11 aces. Leslie Avina led the way for Ridge View with a 18-of-18 effort with three aces. Gabi Mason finished 13-of-13 with two aces. Lilly Whitmer served a perfect 12-of-12 with one ace. Chloe Murphy finished 11-of-11 with two aces, and Kiara Luscombe went 9-of-9 with one ace.

Addison Ehler had a team-best 12 kills for East Sac County. Ehler also had eight digs and wound up 8-of-8 at the service line, matching the performance of teammate Katelyn Schmitt. Jordin Carroll finished with 21 of the Raiders 22 assists in the match loss.

Raptors senior Sydney Blackmore, a Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, TN) signee had a monstrous night in kills. She had a match-best 16 to go along with a high-spirited .640 kill efficiency. Blackmore also finished the match with 11 digs. The other part of the Raptors one-two punch is senior setter Whitmer. She finished with 34 assists, adding three kills, seven digs, and a 12-of-12 serving effort with one ace.

East Sac County finished their 2024 season with a 19-9 match record overall. Ridge View improves to 19-17 overall and advances to face Iowa Prep Illustrated’s (IPI) seventh overall ranked team in Class 2A, South Hardin. The Tigers will come into the Class 2A Region 6 semifinal tonight at 7 PM at South Hardin High School in Eldora with a match record of 24-8.
