Raptors Tesch third in girls 5K, area school run at S-O Invitational

SIBLEY — Alta -Aurelia girls and Okoboji boys chased down the team titles at the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invitational on Tuesday. A total of 157 runners (59 Girls, 98 boys) competed in the 5K events at the Sibley Golf Course.

Schools represented in the girls team race were Alta-Aurelia (45) and runner-up Ridge View (57), followed by George-Little Rock/CL (80), Okoboji (91), Hinton and Boyden-Hull Rock Valley each finished with a 108 team score.

On the boy’s side of things, team champion Okoboji finished with 33 total points. Runner-up Sheldon tallied a total of 62 team points. The field of field schools then finished with Sibley-Ocheyedan (98), Western Christian (134), MVAOCOU (137), sixth place went to Ridge View with a 163 team score. The remainder of the 15 team field was Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (195), Akron-Westfield (237), George-Little Rock/CL (256), tenth place belonged to MMCRU (256), Alta-Aurelia (262), Trinity Christian (314), 14th place was South O’Brien. The Wolverines finished with 28 fewer point on their team score than Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s total of 380.

Okoboji boy’s game into the meet fifth ranked in Class 2A. Meanwhile, the Orabs of Sheldon are 12th ranked in Class 2A. Alta-Aurelia was the lone ranked team on the girls side, coming in seventh in Class 1A.

Individually, Class 1A top-ranked Nora Peterson of Alta-Aurelia won the 5K in a time of 18:37.47. Seventh-ranked in Class 3A in Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s Elyse Zwart with runner-up honors in a time of 19:40.73. Junior Addy Tesch of Ridge View who is ranked 24th in Class 1A finished third with an effort of 21:26.25.

Okoboji’s 18th-ranked (Class 2A) Evan Osler took gold with an effort of 17:00.36. Also in the boy’s 5K event, fourth ranked (Class 1A) Ben Byers of Sibley-Ocheyedan finished runner-up with a posting of 17:09.49.

Top performers for the MMCRU girls was Alisa Pajazatovic finishing 40th place with a time of 27:52.78. South O’Brien senior Tricia Kilts was 59th with a 35:27.36 timed effort.

Ridge View’s Odin Hanson, a junior, finished 12th place with a clocking of 18:15.52. Senior Lucas Braun was the top individual runner for MMCRU with a 17th place finish in a time of 18:33.77. Talented freshman Landen Davenport of South O’Brien finishing 56th place overall with a posted time of 21:30.66.

South O’Brien and Ridge View will be two of the 35 schools represented Saturday at the 35th Annual Tim Thomas Classic in Holstein. Start time is 9 AM.
