James, Thorson earns second team All-Lakes Conference, Barnes named honorable mention

The Lakes Conference coaches have announced their All-Lakes Conference teams for the 2024 softball season. Cherokee finished the season with a 1-7 league record and 7-20 overall record.

Cherokee lost to Southeast Webster 11-0 in five innings in the first round of Class 3A Region 4 play to end their season.

League champion Estherville-Lincoln Central who finished the conference season unbeaten (7-0) and finished 32-7 overall had six first team honoree’s and one honorable mention selection.

Named to the All-Lakes Conference second team was Cherokee junior Addison James was recognized as an infielder. James finished the season with a .304 batting average, .345 on-base percentage, and .418 slugging percentage. She was second on the Braves in home runs with two, and finished the season with 13 RBI.

Sophomore centerfielder Sophie Thorson made the second team. Thorson led Cherokee in triples (3) and RBI (22). She hit at a .370 clip with a .414 OBP and .506 slugging percentage. Thorson finished tied as the team leader with six stolen bases on the season.

Mysteriously, not making the first or second team and having to settle for honorable mention was Cherokee senior Parissa Barnes. She led Cherokee in hits (35), runs scored (23), highest batting average (.479), highest with a .568 OBP, and .575 slugging percentage. She also had seven doubles, 10 runs batted in, and finished tied with Thorson for leader in stolen bases.
