ROCK RAPIDS — A step in right direction to find a resolution for Lakes Conference Schools (Cherokee, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Spencer, Spirit Lake and Storm Lake), independent (Western Christian) took place on the morning of Tuesday, November 26 when they meet with representatives of Siouxland Conference schools (Boyden-Hull, Central Lyon, MOC/FV, Okoboji, Rock Valley, Sheldon, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Sioux Center, Unity Christian, West Lyon) and reached a tentative to realign at the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
Athletic directors from all 16 schools will meet again in early December to continue discussions of the merger.
Superintendents from those schools plan to bring recommendations to their respective school boards in December.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Would like to see realignment in two divisions with eight schools in each division. Scheduling would be a bit tricky, but administrators and athletic directors could follow scheduling the way its done in the North Iowa Cedar League or Mississippi Valley Conference.
Realignment of divisions could be similiar to the suggestion below:
Northern Siouxland Lakes Division
Boyden-Hull
Central Lyon
Estherville-Lincoln Central
Rock Valley
Sibley-Ocheyedan
Spirit Lake
Western Christian
West Lyon
Southern Siouxland Lakes Division
Cherokee
MOC/Floyd Valley
Okoboji
Sheldon
Sioux Center
Spencer
Storm Lake
Unity Christian
