SIOUX RAPIDS — Taco Tuesday? No, cross country Tuesday for Ridge View girls and boy’s team, and South O’Brien boy’s team at the Chris Smith Invitational hosted by Sioux Central.
There were a total of 51 varsity runners in the girls 5K event, and another 89 runners in the boy’s varsity 5K that followed.
It came down to a tie-breaker for first place honors between No. 17-ranked (Class 1A) Sioux Central and No. 16-ranked (Class 1A) Ridge View for the girls team crown. Each squad finished with a team score of 46. This left meet official to go to the sixth runner individually to break the tie.
Individually, second-ranked (Class 1A) Nora Peterson, a senior, from Alta-Aurelia took first with a 18:22.12, finishing ahead of second-ranked (Class 2A) Alyssa Richman of Manson-NW Webster with a 19:14.46 clocking.
Junior Addison Tesch of Ridge View, who entered the meet No. 17-ranked (Class 1A) took third place with a 20:27.48 showing.
Tricia Kilts was the lone runner for South O’Brien, finishing with a time of 34:15.23, finishing in 51st place overall.

BOYS 5K ENDS IN SWEEP
Individually, Spirit Lake’s Brandon Hughes and Dietrich Dirks finished first and second respectively., The two runners and both individually ranked. Hughes in top-ranked in Class 2A, and Dirks in fourth ranked.
Ridge View’s Odin Hanson was the highest place finish for Ridge View. Hanson wound up in 20th place with a 18:17.95 showing. The Raptors wound up eighth in the team race with a team score of 188.
The South O’Brien boy’s team saw freshman Landen Davenport continue leading the team. Davenport had the highest individual finish in 47th place with a 20:00.38 showing. As a team, the Wolverines finished 13 place with a 334 team score. South O’Brien finishing ahead of only Newell-Fonda in the 14 schools represented.
