HOLSTEIN — It was a beautiful day to run and a wonderful course at the Holstein Country Club to compete on Saturday. The course was packed
There were 387 varsity competitors in four divisions — 119 Class B Girls, 65 Class A Girls, 126 Class B Boys, and 77 Class A Boys, not to mention 54 teams represented.
It was a loaded field with individually ranked runners capturing top place finishes in the four varsity races.
In the Class B girls 5K event, Alta-Aurelia’s second-ranked (Class 1A) Nora Peterson won with a time of 18:58.53. Peterson finished ahead of second-ranked (Class 2A) Alyssa Richman of Manson-NW Webster’s runner-up finish with a time of 19:03.22. West Monona’s Chloe Broer, whon is 10th-ranked in Class 1A took bronze with an effort of 20:14.43.
Ridge View junior Addy Tesch led the Raptors. Tesch 17th-ranked in Class 1A finished with an effort of 20:26.64. Sophomore Clara Todd earned herself a Top-30 place finish with a clocking of 22:40.70.
Short-handed South O’Brien girls competed with just two runners in senior’s Hailei Wallinga and Tricia Kilts.
In the Class A girls 5K race, seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Addison Bertrand of Sioux City Heelan captured gold in a time of 19:35.40. Runner-up in the event was Audriana Jones of Sioux Center. Jones came into the event 12th ranked in (Class 3A), finishing with a time of 19:55. MOC/FV’s Natalie Anderson is fourth ranked (Class 3A) finishing with the third-best time of 19:57.25.
Cherokee had all six of its runners with Top-30 place finishes, helping the Braves to a third place finish in the team race. Cherokee is 15th-ranked in Class 2A with a team score of 96. The Braves finished back of sixth-ranked (Class 3A) Sioux Center with a team score of 42, and 14th-ranked (Class 3A) MOC/FV’s tally of 62.

BOYS EVENTS OUTCOME
The outcomes on the boy’s side took a very similiar path. Individually the top three place finishes belonged to ranked runners in both the Class B and Class A events.
In Class B, the first place medal went to third-ranked (Class 1A) Anthony Valles of Fort Dodge St. Edmonds. Valles finished with a effort of 16:46.26. Ninth-ranked (Class 2A) Ridge Potts of South Central Calhoun finished runner-up in a 16:56.64 clocking. Thatcher Oswald of Manson-NW Webster settled for third place. The Cougars runner is 11th-ranked (Class 2A), finishing with a 16:58.54 showing.
For Ridge View, Odin Hanson led the Raptors with an overall 22nd place effort in a time of 18:32.82. Freshman Landen Davenport was the highest place finish for South O’Brien with a 20:14.98 time, earning him 58th place.
On the team side, Ridge View finished eighth out of 17 schools represented. South O’Brien finished 16th place. The Class B team champion was the Class 1A fourth ranked Bulldogs from Riverside. Runner-up in the team race was the 10th-ranked Gaels of Fort Dodge St. Edmonds.

A field of 77 boys took to the starting line of the Class A boy’s 5K. The eventual champion was 17th-ranked (Class 4A) Kuma Gutema, a freshman, from Sioux City North with a 16:14.70 finish. Runner-up honors went to fifth-ranked (Class 1A) Woodbine’s Gunnar Wagner, The senior posted a effort of 16:49.59, while third went to 15th-ranked (Class 3A) Dayton Wiederien of Carroll Kuemper with a 17:02.13 clocking.
Continuing to lead the Braves was junior Cully Mizner-Funderman with a strong effort, finishing 34th place in a time of 18:57.05. Cherokee finished down the line on team place finish, winding up 10th out of 12 schools, finishing ahead of WC/KP/RV and Sioux City West.
Sioux City North finished ahead of sixth-ranked (Class 2A) Okoboji. The North Stars tallied a team score of 54 and the Pioneers had 65 team points.
