MARCUS — It was a day for War Eagle Conference teams and athletes to showcase their talents on the Marcus Golf Course in the War Eagle Conference Meet held Thursday.

MMCRU senior Lucas Braun captured the boy’s 5K crown separating himself from 51 runners. Braun posted a winning time of 18:14.38, leading the Royals to a runner-up team finish behind Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, who won the team title for the second consecutive year.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn finished with a team score of 57, while MMCRU finished with 74.

South O’Brien came in fourth place with 100 team score. Their top performance came from freshman Landon Davenport, who finished third individually with a time of 18:41.45. Also earning all conference honors was sophomore Trayton Cobb, with his 15th place overall sowing in a time of 19:50.14.

“To be where Landon is and still shave off 40 seconds from his PR time in incredible. His focus in practice the last few weeks has been stellar. We had several PRs so I can’t ask for much more than that. As a team, we really made leaps and bounds with where we started and that’s a credit to their hard work.”

Jeremy Lansink, South O’Brien head cross country coach
